Injured fugitive Lin Vanner (Lew Ayers) hides out at the residence of a priest (Victor Jory) and recounts the story of how he was an oil man who had money stole from his company and tracked down the man who he thought was guilty. He ends up killing the man and then discovering that he killed the wrong man. Plagued by guilt, Vanner ends up going to work for the dead man's widow, not telling her that he was the one responsible for her husband's death. Now they are falling in love with each other! Will she find out his secret? Will she forgive him or turn him into the authorities?
