Lawyer Craig Carlson (Raymond Burr) is having an illicit affair with Myra Leeds (Angela Lansbury), the wife of his best friend, Joe Leeds. One night, Myra shoots her husband and is arrested for murder. Carlson takes the case of defending the woman he loves and after a grueling trial, wins her an aquittal. But after the verdict, Carlson discovers that he's been a dupe and that she did commit the murder. By law, she can't be tried for the same crime twice, but is she going to "get away with murder" or is Carlson going to figure out some way to bring her to justice?
